Students Present AI-Powered Equipment Maintenance Solution at eProjects Innovation Showcase

On July 25, 2025, a group of students from the Faculty of Information Technology, Lạc Hồng University, participated in the eProjects Innovation Showcase, an event organized by Arizona State University (USA) in collaboration with The Dow Chemical Company. The group presented PredictEdge, a system that uses artificial intelligence (AI) combined with IoT sensors to assist with equipment maintenance in manufacturing plants.

Stemming from the reality that many factories currently perform equipment maintenance on a fixed schedule or only after a failure occurs—leading to costly downtime and expenses—the team developed a system that monitors equipment status in real-time. Data such as vibration, temperature, sound, and current are collected via sensors and transmitted to a central system for processing.

The PredictEdge system uses AI models like LSTM and Isolation Forest to analyze data and provide early warnings when it detects anomalies. The system automatically sends notifications via email, text message, or on a visual dashboard, helping maintenance staff monitor and respond promptly.

The students have already built a prototype with a dashboard interface to track each piece of equipment, detect early signs of failure, log operational history, and support analysis. Testing results show that the system achieves high accuracy, with an F1-score of approximately 92.5%. The solution is designed for small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises in Vietnam, with a focus on low cost, ease of deployment, and simple integration into existing production lines.

The participating team included four students and two faculty advisors: (From left to right: Mr. Trần Văn Thành, students Nguyễn Thành Tài, Trần Doãn Quảng, Lê Hoàng Giang, Nguyễn Đại Phúc, and Ms. Văn Đình Vỹ Phương)

Participating in the eProjects Innovation Showcase was not only an opportunity for the student team to present their product to international experts but also a chance to access new technology trends, learn from international projects, and expand their academic and professional networks in technology and innovation. This is also part of Lạc Hồng University's ongoing effort to enhance international cooperation and create opportunities for students to engage in high-impact, applied academic activities.
