LHU Students Explore the Bilingual E-Commerce Learning Journey "Powered by ASU"

Today, the E-Commerce major goes far beyond online sales, representing a dynamic convergence of business, technology, data analysis, marketing, and customer insights. As the digital market continually expands, foreign language proficiency and the ability to thrive in an international environment are becoming essential advantages for students.

To help students fully understand the curriculum, academic roadmap, and international learning experiences, the Faculty of Information Technology at Lac Hong University organized an introductory workshop for the bilingual E-Commerce program "Powered by ASU."

The program provides students and parents with a comprehensive view of the four-year academic journey, spanning professional foundations, career orientation, and learning experiences associated with Arizona State University (ASU).

Understanding E-Commerce and the Academic Roadmap

During the workshop, Ms. Bùi Thị Thu Trang, Head of the E-Commerce Department at Lac Hong University, shared insights into the academic roadmap, specializations, and the core competencies students need to build throughout their studies.

According to the department head, E-Commerce students do not merely learn how to sell products across online platforms. The curriculum also equips them with knowledge in digital business, digital marketing, technology, data management, consumer behavior, omnichannel sales operations, and e-commerce project development.

The learning roadmap is structured across four distinct stages:

  • First Year: Building Foundations

    Students familiarize themselves with the university environment, foundational concepts in business, technology, E-Commerce, and foreign languages, while developing study methodologies, communication skills, and teamwork abilities.

  • Second Year: Understanding Customers, Optimization, and Operations

    Students dive deeper into digital marketing, consumer behavior, content management, website and online storefront administration, and business operations across e-commerce platforms. At this stage, students gradually learn how to select target markets, engage customers, execute content strategies, and run e-commerce operations.

  • Third Year: Technology Application and Data Utilization

    Students study electronic payments, security and cybersecurity, data management, business data analytics, artificial intelligence, automation, and cross-border e-commerce. Technology is applied not only to create products but also to help businesses understand customers, optimize operations, and make more accurate decisions.

  • Fourth Year: Project Completion and Professional Competence

    Students focus on developing e-commerce projects, participating in internships, refining their professional portfolios, and executing their graduation theses or capstone projects according to the curriculum plan.

After four years, students are guided not only to acquire theoretical knowledge but also to build tangible products, practical experience, and the readiness to enter the labor market.

What Does "Powered by ASU" Mean for Students?

One of the highlights that captured students' interest during the workshop was the presentation by Mr. Kevin Lowrence regarding Arizona State University, the significance of the "Powered by ASU" initiative, and the Project-Based Learning (PBL) experiences available to learners.

Through the collaboration with ASU, students gain expanded access to internationally benchmarked learning materials, modern educational methodologies, and activities designed to strengthen the practical application of knowledge.

PBL experiences enable students to participate in problem-solving, tackle real-world tasks, and develop products stage by stage. Rather than relying solely on memorization, students are encouraged to proactively investigate, collaborate in teams, pitch ideas, and apply what they have learned to specific scenarios.

The value of "Powered by ASU" lies not only in international brand recognition but also in how students approach knowledge acquisition, cultivate critical thinking, and prepare to adapt to a global study and work environment.

The Bilingual Journey: Beyond Studying Your Major in English

In the comprehensive overview of the bilingual journey, Mr. Huỳnh Thúc Hiếu, Deputy Director of the Admissions and Public Relations Center at Lac Hong University, helped students gain a clearer understanding of the program's objectives and the values it delivers.

The defining strength of the bilingual program extends beyond the mere number of courses taught in English. Students systematically develop foreign language proficiency as a practical tool to:

  • Read and leverage specialized international literature;

  • Communicate and exchange ideas during academic discussions;

  • Pitch ideas and present project proposals;

  • Draft reports and present analytical results;

  • Access international knowledge, technologies, and industry trends;

  • Operate effectively within multicultural environments.

English is integrated progressively along a structured roadmap, allowing students to adapt naturally rather than requiring fluency from day one.

Through the bilingual curriculum, students are guided to cultivate four standout competencies: solid professional expertise, foreign language proficiency, multicultural adaptability, and global connectivity.

Is the Bilingual Program Difficult?

This is a common concern shared by many prospective students and parents.

Enrolling in the bilingual program does not mean students must be fluent in English from the start. What matters most is a proactive mindset, a willingness to practice, and the confidence to use a foreign language regularly.

Students progressively familiarize themselves with specialized terminology, English-language learning resources, academic presentations, and professional communication. With consistent use, English transitions from a standalone subject into an empowering tool that unlocks new knowledge and opportunities.

To succeed academically, students should:

  • Prepare lessons in advance and actively participate in classroom activities;

  • Maintain daily English practice habits;

  • Boldly engage with lecturers and peers;

  • Participate in academic events, clubs, and collaborative projects;

  • Accumulate practical products semester by semester.

Career Opportunities for E-Commerce Graduates

Upon graduation, students are well-prepared for roles in e-commerce enterprises, online marketplaces, omnichannel retail companies, technology firms, logistics providers, digital marketing agencies, digital service providers, and businesses undergoing digital transformation.

Suitable career paths and titles include:

  • E-Commerce Operations Specialist;

  • Website or Online Storefront Administrator;

  • Digital Marketing Specialist;

  • Content, SEO, and Online Advertising Specialist;

  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Specialist;

  • Business Data Analyst;

  • Omnichannel Sales Operations Specialist;

  • Digital Business Development Specialist;

  • Digital Transformation Project Support Specialist;

  • E-Commerce Project Manager.

Foreign language proficiency further expands career opportunities within foreign-invested enterprises, multinational corporations, cross-border e-commerce companies, and international market divisions.

What Parents Can Expect from the Program

For parents, the true value of an academic program is reflected not merely in a list of course titles, but in the capabilities students build throughout their educational journey.

The bilingual E-Commerce program aims to ensure that students:

  • Master an interdisciplinary blend of business and technology;

  • Apply foreign language skills effectively in academics and professional practice;

  • Build tangible products, projects, and hands-on experience;

  • Excel in communication, public speaking, and teamwork;

  • Cultivate an adaptive mindset to navigate market shifts;

  • Establish clear career directions prior to graduation.

Achieving these outcomes requires a synergy between the structured curriculum, faculty mentorship, and—most importantly—the student's personal proactiveness.

Ready for the Borderless E-Commerce Journey

The workshop provided students with a comprehensive understanding of the E-Commerce academic roadmap, the significance of the "Powered by ASU" initiative, PBL experiences, and growth opportunities within the bilingual framework.

This event served not only as a program introduction but also as a meaningful opportunity for each student to reflect on their academic goals and proactively prepare for the future.

Start early, use English boldly, engage actively in activities, and build real-world products. Because after four years, the ultimate measure of success is not just answering "What did I study?" but rather "What can I do?" and "Am I ready to work with the world?"
